Din Of Celestial Birds is a Leeds based instrumental quintet formed around heavy progressive-post metal, with a sound shaped by guitars, synths, bass and drums. Since their 2023 debut "The Night Is For Dreamers", the band have appeared at festivals such as ArcTanGent, Damnation, dunk!fest and Can Festival, alongside headlining tours across the UK. Their music combines expansive guitar arrangements with electronic textures and shifting dynamics, creating compositions that move between restrained sections and heavier surges. "Takeoffs & Landings" is their second full length release, written and performed by Andie Gill, Chris Core, Tom Hazlehurst, Matt Benatan and Vince Knight-Schrijver.
"Takeoffs & Landings" develops its travel concept through broad instrumental compositions, moving from melodic guitar lines and synth layers into heavier passages driven by tremolo guitars and forceful drumming. The production by Joe Clayton gives the album a detailed, spacious presentation, with the additional studio work allowing the guitars, synths, bass and drums to interact across a wider sonic range. The record shifts between reflective sections and louder climaxes, with "Marmoris" reaching particularly heavy territory through its tremolo guitars and blast beats.
"From This Summit We Can See The Heavens & Stars" uses a slower progression before expanding into an expansive finale, while "I Hope That Road Leads You Somewhere Beautiful, Somewhere You Belong" introduces a more personal emotional tone through its melodic writing. The closing "Second Star To The Right, And Straight On 'Til Morning" brings the album towards a large scale conclusion. This is atmospheric post metal with heaviness to sit comfortably beside progressive and post metal releases, while the melodic side remains central throughout. The best things come out from nowhere. Dig it.
