GoaTesT brings together Finnish grindcore musicians Keijo “Kaos” Niinimaa and Jaakko “Spider” Forsman, known from Goatburner and Ratface, with Thiago “Barata” and João Kombi of Brazilian grindcore band Test. Niinimaa also handles vocals, guitar and bass, while Forsman covers drums, percussion, guitar and bass. The Brazilian side adds drums, percussion, guitar and vocals, creating a four piece collaboration between two underground scenes with plenty of experience in extreme music. The project first took shape during the 2024 to 2026 period, with the debut issued through Time To Kill Records.
“GoaTesT” runs through fourteen tracks of grindcore with sludge elements, rapid sections, heavier slower moments and experimental touches that give the material some variation. The production was handled by GoaTesT, with drums recorded in Berlin, additional instruments captured at various locations, mixing by Kaos and mastering by Markus Matzinger. The guitars and rhythm section come through with a raw presentation, while the vocals stay firmly rooted in extreme grindcore.
The songwriting moves between very short attacks and longer sections, adding some change to the pace across the album. “GoaTesT” is a rough, uncompromising grindcore release with enough variation to avoid becoming a one speed assault. Some ideas hit harder than others, and the experimental touches will not appeal to everyone. The collaboration has produced a record that stays close to extreme underground territory and gives the listener a fairly intense forty minute ride.
