Gravecrawler formed in the suburbs of Stockholm in the summer of 2019 with one plan: take Swedish metal and drag it somewhere darker and heavier. The band mixes the raw groove of old school Swedish death metal, the freezing bleakness of 90's black metal and a streak of brutal death metal filth into one sound that stays rough and mean on purpose. The members track and produce every note themselves and let nobody else touch the sound, and each release has been another round of refining that DIY method.

“Nidus” is a concept album about a dying world, traced from its first spark of creation to its annihilation, and the band built it to suffocate. The riffs come from the old Swedish death metal groove, the black metal side brings the frost and the hopelessness, and the brutal death metal streak pulls the lowest parts down into the gutter. Because the band recorded and produced everything on its own, the sound stays raw around the edges. That is the right call for a story about a world coming apart, since a tidy mix would be a lie here.

The order of the tracks follows the life and death of that world, which gives the album a path from birth to ruin and keeps the lyrics and the music pulling in the same direction. Doing everything in house has a price. The mix has limits and a story this large needs more than one speed to stay gripping, so a few stretches run on the same mean energy longer than they should. It is a heavy, suffocating, self-made album with some rough edges left to sand down, and it deserves your attention.
