Mad Max is a German hard rock and heavy metal band founded in Münster in 1981 by guitarist and songwriter Jürgen Breforth. Across more than four decades, the band has released numerous albums and performed on stages across Europe and beyond. “Stories Of Destiny” marks its 45th anniversary and introduces British vocalist Alan Clark, while original singer Andreas Baesler returns for guest vocals after 45 years.
The current line-up features Clark, Baesler, Breforth, guitarist Dethy Borchardt, bassist Fabian Watermann and drummer Axel Kruse. The album also revisits songs co-written by Breforth with musicians including Sascha Gerstner of Helloween, David Readman of Pink Cream 69, Andreas Broon of The Sisters Of Mercy and Michael Voss, alongside two previously unreleased songs dating back to 1991.
“Stories Of Destiny” delivers melodic hard rock with catchy choruses, guitar-led arrangements and a strong connection to the band’s long history. Rolf Munkes and Mad Max handle production, with the mix built to support the guitars, vocals and rhythm section without burying the melodies. “Silver” establishes the album’s melodic approach, while “Weapons Of Love” brings a direct, chorus-driven attack. “Piece Of Candy” gains extra interest from the vocal duet between Clark and Baesler, and “Dulces Falsos” adds thr Spanish version of “Piece Of Candy”.
The older material sits alongside the newly recorded songs without making the album sound like a collection of unrelated leftovers. Some arrangements rely heavily on established hard rock formulas, and the songwriting rarely strays far from them, but the hooks and experienced performances give the songs enough substance to hold together. This is a well-made anniversary release that celebrates Mad Max through strong melodies and a practical balance of new recordings and archival material.
