Morbid Stench is a Central American death-doom metal band formed in 2014 by The Master Butcher from Costa Rica, and Morbid and Purulent from El Salvador. With all three members active in the extreme metal underground since the early 1990s, the band has released two full-length albums, “Doom & Putrefaction” in 2019 and “The Rotting Ways Of Doom” in 2022, alongside several EPs and split releases. Despite its members living in different countries, the songwriting process remains collaborative, with Morbid developing the guitar and bass demos at his Víspera Del Demonio studio in San Salvador, Purulent arranging the drums, and The Master Butcher completing the music with his vocals and lyrics. “Doom Metástasis” marks the band’s third full-length, released through Nuclear Winter Records and Putrid Cult.
“Doom Metástasis” explores decay and transformation through six tracks of death-doom, combining slow, crushing riffs with oppressive atmospheres and rotten melodic lines. The conceptual thread follows a progression from internal corruption to widespread propagation, connecting biological imagery with themes of identity, inevitability and the cycles of existence. The arrangements give the songs a connected progression, with the deliberate pacing reinforcing the album’s bleak atmosphere.
The production retains the raw edge expected from underground death-doom, while the songwriting shows greater attention to arrangement and continuity. The slow sections establish a suffocating pace, though the limited variation in tempo and texture can make parts of the album blur together. The vocals add a suitably repulsive presence, complementing the decaying atmosphere without pulling attention away from the riffs. “Doom Metástasis” is a grim, cohesive release that expands Morbid Stench’s songwriting while remaining rooted in the rotten traditions of Central American death-doom.
