Aenigmatum is a Portland, Oregon death metal band whose sound combines technical musicianship, dissonant harmony and melodic elements drawn from the more progressive corners of extreme metal. “Infinitude’s Passage” is their third full length album, following “Deconsecrate”, with Kelly McLaughlin handling vocals, guitar and bass clarinet, alongside Eli Lundgren on guitar, Brian Rush on bass and Pierce Williams on drums and synths. Patrick Corona contributes saxophone, while Danny Quetzal adds backing vocals. Released through 20 Buck Spin, the album presents a band working within a demanding style that draws from technical death metal, progressive structures and darker melodic traditions.

Across six tracks and 43 minutes, “Infinitude’s Passage” combines rapid rhythmic shifts, intricate guitar lines and dissonant harmonies with melodic movements that recall the more adventurous side of death metal. “Pitiless Mechanism” establishes the album’s restless approach, while “Inseverable” and “Architects Of The Fated” develop the interplay between technical riffing and more expansive melodic ideas. The title track brings the album’s different elements together through winding arrangements and a dark, atmospheric tone.

Colin Marston’s mixing and mastering preserve the detail required by the elaborate instrumentation, although the constant changes in rhythm and harmony can make some sections harder to absorb on first listen. Bass clarinet, saxophone and synths join the guitars and widen the palette beyond the usual death metal toolbox without pulling the album off course. The lyrics contribute to the album’s obscure, introspective atmosphere, complementing its musical emphasis on disorientation and revelation. “Infinitude’s Passage” is an ambitious technical death metal release that rewards listeners drawn to intricate compositions and unconventional arrangements, with its demanding approach occasionally coming at the expense of immediate impact.
