Dragonland is a Swedish symphonic power metal band formed in 1999, recognised for combining fast guitar work, orchestral keyboards and fantasy-inspired songwriting. With “Prophecies”, the band returns for its seventh studio album, featuring Jonas Heidgert on vocals, Jesse Lindskog on guitars, Elias Holmlid on keyboards, Anders Hammer on bass and Johan Nunez on drums. The album continues the band’s established connection with European power metal, drawing on grand arrangements, melodic choruses and lyrical themes spanning fantasy, human survival and personal struggle. Production duties went to no other than Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman ( In Flames, Arch Enemy, HammerFall) while Pedro Sena handled the artwork.

“Prophecies” lasts 52 minutes and eleven tracks, combining rapid guitar riffs, sweeping keyboard arrangements and soaring vocals within a carefully arranged symphonic power metal sound. “The Prophecy Unfolds” introduces the album’s grand scale, while “Rolling Waves” brings a more flowing melodic approach. “Survival Of Mankind” leans into the genre’s urgent, anthemic side, and “The Perfumed Jungles Of Chrysantion” expands the fantasy atmosphere through layered orchestration. The title track reinforces the album’s epic direction, while “Glory And Gold” and “The Call Of The Wild” draw on energetic rhythms and expansive vocal melodies. “A Distant Memory” introduces a more reflective tone, adding contrast to the faster material.

Nordström’s production gives the guitars, drums and keyboards a balanced presentation, allowing the orchestral arrangements to remain prominent. The songwriting occasionally relies on established power metal formulas, particularly in its grand choruses and predictable melodic turns, although the quality of the arrangements and the performances gives the album enough substance to rise above routine genre imitation. “Prophecies” is a well-executed return to symphonic power metal, with its strongest appeal lying in the combination of speed, fantasy atmosphere and expansive melodies.
