In This Hell is a three piece extreme metal band from Coburg, Germany, formed in 2023. Their sound draws from the death, thrash and black metal traditions of the 1980s and 1990s, with a broader range of modern extreme metal influences. The band consists of Pharatyr on vocals and lead guitar, F.N. on drums, and Sarkaz on rhythm guitar. Following the 2024 EP “There Are No Voices”, “Bliss” marks their first full length album, released independently on CD and digital formats.
“Bliss” runs for just under 46 minutes across nine tracks, mixing death metal riffs, thrash driven rhythms and black metal elements into a sound that shifts between different shades of extremity. The production gives the guitars a gritty edge, while the drums and vocals sit firmly within the mix, although certain transitions lack the impact needed to make the arrangements hit as hard as intended. “A Blessing For Society” and “Over The Line” establish the album’s aggressive approach through sharp riff changes and forceful drumming, while “The Longing Sticks To Us” introduces a more brooding atmosphere.
The title track and “Meant To Feed The Fire” maintain the record’s intensity, with “The Sound Of Breaking Bones” leaning into the more violent side of the band’s sound. Lyrically, the album explores the darker corners of human nature, where instinct, domination and moral decay take over. The concept gives the material a coherent thematic direction, although the musical shifts across the album sometimes interrupt its overall flow. “Bliss” offers a competent mixture of old school extreme metal influences and contemporary aggression, with songwriting that has its moments but lacks the consistency needed to leave a deeper impression.
