Boötes Void formed in Würzburg, Germany, in 2019, developing their sound through the EP “Alder’s Heresy” and two full-length albums, “C.O.L.D.” and “Singularity”. With “Panta Rhei”, their third album, the band continues exploring black metal through philosophical themes, social criticism, melodic guitar work, and atmospheric elements. Released through Vendetta Records, the album brings together eight tracks connected by the idea that existence is in constant change.
“Panta Rhei” takes inspiration from Heraclitus, examining oppressive power structures, social decay, nihilism, and the acceptance of impermanence. “Crown Of Vermin” and “Shapers Of The End” confront the destructive nature of authority and society, while the album develops through aggressive black metal passages, melodic arrangements, and atmospheric shifts. The songwriting gives the philosophical subject matter a central role, with the title track bringing the album’s ideas into sharper perspective through guest vocals from Lukas Gosch.
The production balances the guitars, bass, drums, and vocals across the changing dynamics, allowing the melodic and atmospheric details to remain part of the overall sound. Some sections lean heavily on established black metal conventions, limiting the album’s individuality, but the connection between its lyrical themes and musical direction gives the material a coherent character. “Panta Rhei” is a thoughtful, well-developed black metal album that combines social criticism with philosophical reflection.
