Formed in Mexico City in 2014, In Obscurity Revealed has spent over a decade dedicated to old-school death metal. The band initially released material through Caverna Abismal Records before establishing a collaboration with Blood Harvest Records, which resulted in the EP "Grim Fumes Of Revelation", their debut full-length "Glorious Impurity" and a split release with Infesticide. Their discography has also been accompanied by extensive live activity, including two European tours. "Caustic Maelstrom" is their second full-length album, arriving seven years after their debut and featuring eight tracks.
"Caustic Maelstrom" delivers a vicious form of old-school death metal, drawing heavily from the early sounds of Morbid Angel, Necrovore and Incantation. The songwriting revolves around cavernous guitar riffs, savage drumming and dark vocal delivery, with tracks such as "Engulfed In Caustic Maelstrom", "Obsidian Bleeding" and "Consecrated By Rot" representing the album's relentless approach. "To Death, In Fire" introduces a faster attack, while "Sulfur-Clotted Wounds", the longest track, extends the album's oppressive atmosphere through slower sections and crushing riff work.
The production is raw, rooted underground with enough separation between the instruments to preserve the details of the performances. The guitars have a filthy, distorted tone, the bass reinforces the low-end and the drums provide a constant barrage of percussion. Lyrically and atmospherically, the album remains immersed in death, decay and sacrificial imagery. In Obscurity Revealed delivers an uncompromising death metal release with eight tracks steeped in old-school brutality, sinister atmosphere and cavernous songwriting.
