Hardbone comes from Hamburg and has close to twenty years of stage time behind it, with hundreds of shows in sweaty clubs and on big festival stages. The band has shared bills with Rose Tattoo and Thundermother and played Wacken Open Air more than once. Tim Dammann handles the vocals, Sebastian Kranke and Luca Rosnau split the guitars, Tim Schwarz plays bass and Benjamin Ulrich sits on the drums. “Hardbeat” is the sixth album and arrives through Massacre Records after a gap of almost six years.
"Hardbeat" brings eighties-inspired hard rock attitude into a collection driven by distorted riffs, pumping bass lines, steady drum patterns and gritty vocals. The previously released single "Four To The Floor" provides a good indication of the album's musical direction, with its three-chord approach, catchy refrain and straightforward rock 'n' roll arrangement. Its uncomplicated songwriting places the emphasis on guitar work, rhythmic momentum and vocal hooks, with no attempt to complicate the formula.
Originality is not on the menu, the band plays old school rock ’n’ roll and never pretends otherwise, so the album is judged on how hard the riffs swing and how fast the choruses stick, and most of them do both. The weak spot is the formula itself, because when a hook lands a notch softer, the song has nothing else to lean on and the pace sags for a few minutes. The album holds one attitude from top to bottom, which gives it a strong sense of unity. A solid, honest rock ’n’ roll album that kicks hard and does not waste anyone’s time.
