Ombra is a Canadian metal trio from Montreal, formed in late 2020 by Giuseppe “G” Criniti (vocals, guitar), Marco Sisti (guitar, bass) and Nico Angelo Sisti (drums). The three musicians share a long personal history, with Criniti and Marco previously working together in the hard rock/progressive band NRTH, while Nico was active with Hidden Pride before joining the new project. With Ombra, they turned towards a heavier mixture of old-school thrash, sludge, modern groove metal and psychedelic rock. “Night Terror” is their debut EP, featuring five tracks written between 2021 and 2026.
“Night Terror” combines aggressive thrash riffs, sludgy guitar work and groove-driven rhythms, with hard rock influences appearing throughout the arrangements. The production gives the guitars a prominent position, while the drums provide a powerful rhythmic foundation and Criniti's vocals add an angry, confrontational edge. “Hysteria” introduces the subject of media manipulation and social panic through sirens, gunshots and military sounds, while “Stitches” explores obsession, cosmetic perfection and the psychological cost of changing oneself to satisfy external expectations.
“Blue Dream” turns towards chemical dependency and paranoia, leading into the title track's depiction of mental collapse. The instrumental “So It Goes” closes the EP with a change in atmosphere and a more reflective approach. The five tracks form a connected account of fear, addiction, social pressure and psychological instability, with the title track serving as the emotional climax. Ombra presents a promising debut with an accessible blend of thrash, sludge and groove metal, supported by a concept that gives the material a coherent direction.
