Formed in Germany, Asenblut have developed their sound through a combination of pagan metal, viking metal, death metal and classic heavy metal. Their music draws heavily from Norse mythology, ancient battles, gods, warriors and themes of brotherhood, loyalty and resistance. Over the years, the band has released several albums, building a following through aggressive guitar work, melodic choruses and epic songwriting. Their approach combines traditional metal elements with death metal vocals and anthemic arrangements, placing them among the established names of the German pagan metal scene.

"Urgewalt" brings together Norse mythology, battle imagery and martial metal arrangements across a collection of songs featuring thunderous guitars, booming choirs and large-scale choruses. The combination of aggressive riffs and melodic passages gives the album an accessible structure, with the songwriting frequently moving towards anthemic refrains. Its lyrical subjects range from Loki and Ragnarök to brotherhood, betrayal, war and futuristic visions of destruction, maintaining a consistent connection with the band's pagan themes.

The production aims for a powerful, expansive sound, with the guitars and percussion supported by prominent choral arrangements. At times, the reliance on grand choruses and repeated melodic patterns makes the songwriting predictable, while the familiar viking metal formula limits the album's originality. Nevertheless, "Urgewalt" offers a competent collection of German pagan metal, with enough musical substance to maintain interest across its running time.
