Formed in 2016, Hadopelagyal is a German black/death metal band originating from Hamburg and Kiel before relocating its activities to Leipzig and later Leipzig and Essen. The band is currently active, with Hekla handling guitars, vocals and lyrics since its formation, joined by Augur on drums since 2019. Released through Amor Fati Productions, "Zalmathic Necroichorion" marks another chapter in the band's underground activity, drawing on the obscure and deeply oppressive aesthetics associated with extreme metal.

"Zalmathic Necroichorion" is a 23 minutes four-track EP, steeped in death, decay and ancient burial imagery. "Heptaporous Deathchant", "Dakryopneumatic Canticles", "Tombwake Liturgeia" and "Dreadveil Ereboklast" establish a lyrical concept centred on forgotten tombs, subterranean darkness and the transformation of corruption into a form of consecration. The accompanying text uses archaic, almost liturgical language, reinforcing the release's occult direction.

Its presentation is an approach rooted in the darker side of black/death metal, with a strong emphasis on funerary themes and supernatural imagery. Four tracks is a short run for a concept this big, and the longer ones stretch it past its limit. The EP has a clear aim and holds to it, though it offers little to grab for anyone outside the cult. An average descent into the crypt, decent for the faithful and forgettable for everyone else.
