Via Doloris operates as the primary vision of Gildas Le Pape out of Oslo. Most metalheads know his name from his days shredding guitars for Satyricon back in the late 2000s. After leaving that camp to explore other musical paths, the man returned to the extreme scene to forge his own brand of auditory violence. To make this debut happen, he enlisted his old comrade Frost to batter the skins. The resulting creation is "Guerre Et Paix", an album plunging straight into human suffering and sorrow.
The music on "Guerre Et Paix" pushes melody to the absolute bleeding edge. Gildas brings serious six-string skills to the table, delivering riffs that rip through the speakers. The compositions rely on strong expressive lines leading the charge through the noise. This approach gives the music a specific identity separating it from standard tremolo-picked worship. The songwriting focuses on distinct, driving harmonies carving a deep trench into your skull.
