Pako Deimler, drummer Villa Naemoth, and bass player Xas Lázaro have been grinding in the Spanish underground for a minute. These guys dropped a side-project called Endemic and unleashed "The Church Of Destruction" back in January 2024 through Awakening Records. Four years ago, the main Deimler entity delivered "Immortalized", a sci-fi extreme metal release based on the Alien universe. Now, the trio returns to Awakening Records to drop their next extraterrestrial mutation, "Darkness Falls". They trade the xenomorphs for alien conspiracies, keeping the sci-fi death metal flag flying high.
Getting the sonics right is crucial for this style of extreme music. Pako tracked his guitars and vocals at Yellow Moon Studios, while Naemoth hammered out the drum parts at B2V Studios, and Xas locked down the low end at Rehearsal Room's. They handed the whole concoction over to Javi Félez at Moontower Studios in Barcelona for the mix and master. The result is a massive audio assault. The guitars slice through the speakers with a vicious tone. The drums blast and pound with total ferocity, and the bass rumbles underneath it all. Everything sounds massive and lethal.
The entire album revolves around The X-Files, bringing a paranormal conspiracy vibe to the extreme metal table. Tracks like "Beyond The Sea" and "E. B. E." jump straight into alien abductions and government secrets. You hear the creepy sci-fi atmosphere seeping through the riffs. On the title track, "Darkness Falls", they even weave in a few twisted notes straight from the iconic television theme song. It adds a sick touch to the relentless death metal barrage. The crew clearly worships the paranormal subject matter, channeling that strange television energy into brutal music.
These guys play fast, aggressive death metal loaded with vicious grooves and face-melting solos. Pako delivers sinister riffs and guttural vocal growls, tearing through tracks like "Ghost In The Machine" and "The Jersey Devil" with pure malice. Naemoth absolutely destroys the drum kit, constantly shifting between insane blast beats and crushing mid-tempo sections. Xas keeps the rhythm section completely devastating with thick, rumbling bass lines. They keep the momentum going forward and the tracks stay focused on pure metallic destruction.
"Darkness Falls" gives extreme metal fans a highly entertaining ride. The X-Files theme works great with the aggressive music. Jose Antonio Vives supplied awesome cover art to match the extraterrestrial madness inside. Sometimes the tracks blend together a bit much, holding the release back from total perfection. Regardless, Deimler put together a seriously heavy and ripping sci-fi death metal assault.
