Hautajaisyö originated from the freezing gutters of Finland, dedicated to playing straightforward, aggressive death metal. The current roster features Janne Partanen handling vocals, Sami Lustig delivering the guitar riffs, Simo Pesonen executing the bass lines, and Teemu Roth smashing the drums. Releasing their fifth full-length assault, “Surun Paino”, via Inverse Records, the guys bring years of experience to the table. This squad has spent serious time destroying stages and building a dedicated underground following across the northern metal scene.
When you press play on “Surun Paino”, you get blasted with a massive wall of sound. Sami Lustig writes guitar parts that strike like a rusty sledgehammer straight to the skull. The riffs are relentless, driving the songs forward with pure metallic aggression. Underneath the distortion, Simo Pesonen locks in perfectly with Teemu Roth, creating a rhythmic assault that causes instant neck damage. The mix is loud and devastating, bringing every instrument straight into your face.
Janne Partanen delivers a brutal vocal performance across the entire tracklist. His growls sound completely furious, tearing through the heavy instrumentation with severe aggression. He spits the Finnish lyrics with total malice. The vocal production places him right at the front, ensuring every scream strikes with maximum impact. The entire vocal delivery stays consistently vicious, matching the relentless energy of the guitars and drums entirely.
The songwriting remains completely focused on pure headbanging destruction. Hautajaisyö structures these tracks for maximum live stage damage. They rely on fast tempos, crushing double-kick drum patterns, and massive grooves that force the listener into the pit. There is zero wasted time here. Every riff simply exists to crush skulls. The transitions strike fiercely, moving from blistering blast beats into mid-tempo stomps seamlessly.
“Surun Paino” delivers what a death metal maniac wants. Hautajaisyö provides plenty of violence and neck-breaking riffs for anyone heavily invested in the extreme metal underground. The production smashes the listener right in the teeth, and the musicianship remains utterly savage throughout the whole runtime. Fans of the Finnish death metal scene should definitely pick this up and blast it at maximum volume. It delivers a massive dose of pure auditory violence.
