Vreid emerged from the freezing landscapes of Norway long ago to create ripping Sognametal. After a massive five-year silence, the northern warriors return with "The Skies Turn Black". These veterans survived storms and tragedies to forge their iron through sheer will and grim determination. Now, they drop eleven new tracks onto the frozen earth, proving their fire burns hotter than hell itself.

"The Skies Turn Black" delivers pure Nordic frost mixed with heavy, neck-breaking riffs. The guitars roar like a blizzard, tearing down mountains and ripping through the cold night sky. Vreid steps into massive sonic territories, throwing down serious heavy metal thunder. The drums blast and pound without mercy, driving the music straight into your skull. This whole full-length operates on high adrenaline and extreme darkness.

"From These Woods" kicks down the door with massive riffing, capturing the raw spirit of late-night mountain isolation. They expand their sound drastically on "Loving The Dead", bringing in Agnete Kjølsrud of Djerv to deliver insane vocal screams and haunting melodies over the heavy onslaught. The sonic destruction continues with "Kraken", an epic, massive tune crafted originally for the big screen. Vreid blasts through these massive compositions with sheer ferocity and killer execution.

Anders Nordengen handled the production, making the guitars scream and the drums pound with absolute power. The sound hits heavily, keeping the black metal rawness intact while blowing up the speakers with massive volume. Kim Holm provided a hand-drawn artwork, wrapping the grim music in an appropriately dark visual package. Everything about the sound design screams professional metal fury.

This release destroys speakers and delivers the grim Nordic metal we crave. Vreid returned from the shadows and dropped a seriously badass collection of blackened heavy metal anthems. "The Skies Turn Black" rules hard, delivering massive riffs, killer blast beats, and freezing melodies across eleven crushing tracks. Turn the volume to maximum and let the Norwegian winter take over.

Score: 8.0
