Grond formed as a terrifying death metal force in Russia, destroying eardrums with their massive sound. Ten long years passed since their massive "Worship The Kraken" album dropped, with only the 2019 split "Endless Spiral Of Terror" alongside Graceless breaking their long silence. Now, the prodigal sons return to drag us all down to the darkest trenches of the ocean. "The Temple" unites the tragic history of First World War German U-boat commander Otto Eduard Weddigen with the horrifying aquatic madness of H.P. Lovecraft. The result stands as an absolutely massive masterwork of devastating death metal.
The musical descent begins immediately with "Rotten Himmel", dragging the listener straight under the freezing waves. Void unleashes absolutely massive guitar riffs and strange, liquid melodies that haunt the mind. The lead guitar work rules entirely, screaming through the fire and smoke of "Dreadnought" and casting claustrophobic terror across "Pour Le Merite". Endless barrages of heavy chords crash down upon the listener. The entire guitar performance brings immense devastation to every single song.
Vocalist Kist sounds like an ancient, towering sea monstrosity. His gigantic roars echo from the darkest abyss, matching the terrifying power of the instrumentation. Kadath destroys the drum kit with earthshaking power, blasting through the darkness. Sarghas brings immense bass lines, adding ridiculous heaviness to the low end. The entire rhythm section acts as a terrifying machine of war, crushing everything in its path. Tracks like "U29" show off these musicians bringing absolute devastation to the surface.
The album gets heavier and scarier as it goes on. "Radiant Fury" drops you to your knees in front of grotesque ancient gods using completely irresistible riffs. The title track, "The Temple", stands as a shockingly violent monstrosity of death metal perfection. They end the assault with "Dark Solitude Of The Sea", a huge conclusion packed with howling madness, dark secrets, and towering riffs. You simply drown in the suffocating darkness of their music.
Xtreem Music unleashes "The Temple" upon the world featuring totally sick artwork by Daemorph. Fans of Bolt Thrower, Morbid Angel, Asphyx, and Sulphur Aeon will absolutely worship this release. Grond rules the underground death metal scene, and they delivered an absolute triumph of an album. Follow them into the black depths and discover the unseen mysteries hiding on the stygian ocean floor.
