Purple Lung spawned in Pennsylvania back in 2022, dealing out medieval doom and stoner metal. The quartet operates with Toni Pennello singing and slinging guitar alongside Simon Beierle, Max Schmitt holding down the bass, and James Jaskolka handling the drum kit. Following a string of smaller extended plays and singles over the past few years, the four-piece unleashed their debut full-length album, "Mystic Vision".

"Mystic Vision" delivers massive downtuned distortion drenched in high fantasy themes. The music operates at the bleak intersection of heavy psych, sludge, and dungeon rock. You get gigantic bluesy riffs colliding with soaring ethereal vocals. The rhythm section locks into deep nod-inducing grooves. The whole thing summons a dark occult atmosphere straight out of a medieval nightmare. If your daily rotation includes The Sword, Crowbar, War Hungry, or Hum, this sits right in that sweet spot.

Songs like "Blademaster" and "Digging Up Snakes" assault the ear with pure fuzz worship. The guitars churn out enormous heavy riffs. Longer tracks like "Swallowed By The Sea" and "Dreamwalker's Lament" expand the sonic map. They drag the listener into vast atmospheric territories. The band merges heavy doom elements with shoegaze and grunge.

The production works magic on the final sound. Joe Loftus and Jay Preston engineered and mixed the tracks, while Arthur Rizk handled the mastering. They captured massive low-end power. Pennello’s vocals glide above the heavy distortion. The drums and bass provide a thunderous pulse for the distorted guitar lines. The music continually shifts from crushing sludge segments into trippy alt-rock detours.

"Mystic Vision" rules and delivers the goods for anyone obsessed with heavy sounds. The band lays down crushing grooves and pairs them with top-tier vocal performances. The fusion of hardcore aggression and psychedelic haze results in a totally badass album. Turn the volume up and let the fuzz take over.

Score: 8.0
