Hailing from Finland, Acolythus is a savage new force forged by experienced musicians from Convulse, Sargassus, and Jotungrav. This project serves as a direct outlet for cold, traditional black metal, merging a straightforward sonic assault with the distinct melodic style notorious within the Finnish underground scene. Influences from acts like Immortal, Emperor and Alghazanth can be traced in the spirit of the material, though Acolythus still push their own identity throughout the album. Thematic focus centers heavily around occult knowledge, cosmic desolation, and a misanthropic view of humanity.

"Unearthly Kingdoms 'Neath Lifeless Stars" hits with a freezing gust of old-school aggression. Right from the start, "Among Ruins Forlorn" and "Scholars Of Empires Beyond" unleash a torrent of blazing, icy riffs that instantly channel the dark spirit of the nineties. The production is raw and human, completely stripping away the computerized perfection that ruins so much contemporary music. The guitar work from Angrmáni balances grim melody with blistering speed, especially during "As The Slaughtered Wizards Reincarnate."

The rhythm section provides a ferocious, unedited foundation. Maleficarum driving the tempo with relentless drumming while Abyssias anchors the low end. "Frozen Desolate Warfields" and "Vacuous Gods Of The Abyss" unleash freezing tremolo picking and grim, poetic sermons of woe. The vocal performance is a freezing, grim howl that fits the bleak lyrical themes perfectly. The title track, "Unearthly Kingdoms 'Neath Lifeless Stars," brings a massive, epic freezing aura, leading into the final desecration of "In The Fading Light Of Burning Cathedrals." This is authentic, unfiltered black metal that honors the ancient masters with freezing melodies and absolute vitriol.
