Oslo rock'n'roll quintet Bong Voyage emerged from the Norwegian heavy rock scene after releasing independent singles that positioned them as an exciting new band. The lineup features experienced musicians from established acts like Håndgemeng, Suncraft, and Buskas. Charlie Ytterli handles vocals, Simen Andersen and Kim Grannes play guitar, Tobias Paulsen is on drums, and Asbjørn Halsten plays bass. These road-worn rock musicians are now launching their first full-length album.
You want rock? This Oslo crew drops a debut album with Ripple Music that channels pure hedonism. Inspired by rock pioneers across the decades, the musicians deliver a heavy dose of rock 'n' roll energy. The
tracks provide the ideal background music for a night of overindulgence, serving as a solution to daily boredom. It is a large tribute to classic rock sounds that aims to transport listeners from local dive bars out into the cosmos.
The riffs on this album are loaded with standard rock swagger. "Large And In Charge" acts as a great example of their style, combining steady rhythms with loud guitar work. The songs rely on familiar chord progressions and straightforward structures, hitting that sweet spot for classic rock revival. The rhythm section lays down a functional groove while the guitars trade classic solos. Vocals ride high over the mix with plenty of classic rock attitude, driving the energy forward across the tracklist. It is simple, retro rock executed with a lot of enthusiasm.
The production strikes a good balance for this style of music. The guitars have a raw edge, and the drums sound organic without modern studio tricks. Some tracks can sound a bit similar after a while, as the tempos and structures follow a very familiar rock formula. A few more distinct melodies would help separate the songs, but the overall energy levels remain high. For fans of classic, beer-fueled rock 'n' roll, this debut provides a fun, retro ride.
