Origin New Zealand
Hailing from the depths of the New Zealand underground, Molosser is a newly formed death metal entity that emerged to unleash absolute devastation. Formed by a collective of musicians operating under the initials A.K., J.A., J.H., C.J., and A.M., the band has aligned with the cult label Gutter Prince Cabal to spearhead their first strike. Emerging from a territory already infamous for its uncompromisingly violent sonic exports, this unit positions itself as a new contributor to the global death metal landscape.
"Molosser" is a straight assault that drops all useless baggage to focus entirely on momentum. The release relies on primitive drive, deploying a barrage of heavy riffing and unrelenting drumming. It stays tracks away from modern traps, keeping the energy focused on speed and impact. The tracks are built on a formula that favors a frontal charge over intricate arrangements, linking them to the raw lineage of groups like Diocletian, Heresiarch, and Caveman Cult.
The EP thrives when the tempos remain fast and the attack stays direct. The vocals provide a constant, low roar that matches the pace of the guitars, while the rhythm section keeps the momentum locked into a steady forward march. "Strychnine Hill" and "Ogre Column" establish this approach early on, driving forward with consistent velocity. The shorter
track, "Vengeance Manifest", increases the speed, avoiding unnecessary shifts. The closing track, "Indomitable Force", extends the duration significantly, which slightly alters the urgency seen in the earlier parts of the release, though it maintains the same sonic foundation.
The release is a functional example of underground death metal that achieves its main objective. It delivers a steady dose of aggression without incorporating outside influences or useless experimentation. While it does not offer anything completely unexpected for the genre, it provides four tracks of consistent, relentless power that serves as a proper introduction for the band.
