Formed in Dublin, Cutthroat entered the Irish underground through two demos released in 2023 and 2025. The trio consists of B. McG on bass and lead vocals, B. M on guitars and backing vocals, and C. S on drums. Their approach comes from the violent meeting point between early death metal and speed driven thrash, stripped down to riffs, frantic drumming and guttural vocals. “Invoking Terror” is their first mini album, released via Dying Victims Productions, with artwork conceived by Jesper Nobbe and completed by Dark Dungeon Atelier. Cutthroat arrives with a defined direction and little interest in presenting themselves as anything beyond a savage underground metal unit.

Across five songs and 25 minutes, “Invoking Terror” charges ahead through tremolo riffs, rapid chord changes, hammering drums and vocals buried deep within the attack. The production is raw without becoming shapeless, giving the guitars a rough edge while the rhythm section remains audible beneath them. The lyrics revolve around terror, violence and death, serving the primitive character of the music without turning into elaborate storytelling. Speed is the main weapon, though the more measured sections add enough variation to stop the mini album becoming one continuous blur. Some riff patterns begin to merge during the latter half, and the songwriting could use stronger individual hooks to separate each song. Even so, the playing is disciplined, the pacing is efficient and the atmosphere stays vicious throughout. “Invoking Terror” offers 25 minutes of old school thrashing death metal performed with aggression and respect for its chosen style. It is compact, hostile and violent, even when its limited range becomes apparent.
