Formed in Northern Italy in 2007, If I Die Today has spent nearly two decades building their name through relentless touring and a steady progression across several releases. Their music blends post hardcore with metal, hardcore punk, rock'n'roll and occasional stoner influences, moving further away from straightforward hardcore as the years passed. Albums like "Cursed" and "The Abyss In Silence" expanded their songwriting without abandoning the aggression that shaped their early years, while constant appearances alongside acts such as The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, While She Sleeps, Beartooth and The Offspring helped establish them across the European underground.
Their latest studio album, "I Felt Nothing", continues that path with production handled by Dano Battocchio at Deepest Sea Studio, mastering by Will Putney at Graphic Nature Studio, and artwork by Alberto Becherini. The album arrives through collaboration between Shove Records, Tifone Crew Records, Vollmer Records and several independent partners, reflecting the collective spirit that has surrounded the band for years.
"I Felt Nothing" presents a version of If I Die Today that is focused on impact without locking itself into one formula. Hardcore remains the foundation, although metallic riffing, bursts of rock'n'roll attitude and rhythmic twists constantly reshape the direction of the songs. The guitars dominate the mix with thick, aggressive riffs that never settle into one pattern for too long, while the rhythm section shifts between fast attacks and slower passages that build tension before releasing it. The vocals move between raw shouting and more controlled expressions, adding variation without diluting the intensity. Guest appearances are used with restraint and blend naturally into the material, adding different shades without turning individual songs into collaborations for their own sake.
The production is powerful, instruments have space to make impact, the guitars retain a rough edge, the bass remains audible throughout, and the drums sound organic. The mastering by Will Putney adds volume and punch without flattening the dynamics, allowing the constant rhythmic changes to remain effective. There is bitterness throughout the writing, mixed with sarcasm that occasionally lightens the atmosphere without reducing the seriousness of the subject matter. Those themes fit naturally with the restless musical direction and never come across as exaggerated or theatrical.
"I Felt Nothing" is a convincing addition to If I Die Today's catalogue. It does not rely on nostalgia or trends, choosing a straightforward path built on aggressive songwriting, memorable riff work and a restless rhythmic approach. Some compositions leave a stronger impression than others, preventing the album from reaching a higher level, though there is enough quality across its running time to make it rewarding beyond the first listen. It reflects a band that has refined its songwriting through experience while staying committed to the intensity that defined its earlier years.
