Squelching is a solo brutal death metal project from Indianapolis, Indiana, formed around a fixation with extreme heaviness and graphic subject matter. The project joins the Horror Pain Gore Death Productions roster with this self titled release, presenting fourteen tracks that move through brutal death metal territory with influences connected to the likes of Devourment, Abominable Putridity, Cerebral Incubation, Internal Bleeding and Skinless. The whole release runs for just over half an hour, giving the project enough time to establish its approach through short, compact compositions and a constant focus on extreme vocal work, crushing guitar tones and hard hitting percussion.
"Squelching" is a filthy and uncompromising brutal death metal release that puts its focus firmly on heaviness and extreme vocals. The production has a raw underground edge, with the instruments pushed toward a thick and aggressive sound that suits the material. The riffs are simple in their construction, with frequent bursts of fast percussion and slower sections adding variation across the album. "Artistic License", featuring Mortis Imperium, adds another voice to the album's violent presentation. There is no attempt to soften the impact, and the short track lengths prevent the record from becoming bloated. "Squelching" is a straightforward dose of brutal death metal with enough variation to hold together as a complete release.
