Misery Index formed in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2001, becoming one of the early names associated with the American deathgrind scene. The band was founded around vocalist and bassist Jason Netherton, with its music drawing from death metal, grindcore and hardcore. Their debut EP, "Overthrow", appeared that same year through the band's own Anarchos Records, establishing an early sound built on extreme tempos, heavy riffing and socially charged lyrics. More than two decades later, this first release remains an important document from the band's early period.

"Overthrow" receives its first vinyl edition through Time To Kill Records, with the original five songs joined by three bonus tracks taken from the 2002 split with Commit Suicide. The material is raw, fast and uncompromising, with death metal and grindcore constantly pushing against hardcore aggression. The lyrics focus on social corruption, suffering, political abuse and human destruction, giving the EP a distinctly confrontational edge. "Dead Shall Rise", the Terrorizer cover, sits naturally within the material and reinforces the extreme metal roots behind the band's approach. The new vinyl edition was mastered for the format by Virtalähde Mastering, giving these early recordings a dedicated vinyl treatment. "Overthrow" remains a concise example of early 2000s deathgrind, stripped of decoration and built around extreme music with a strong social focus. The three bonus songs also add useful material from the same early period, making this edition more substantial than a simple reissue.
