Scald is a Russian epic metal band whose history is closely tied to the classic era of epic doom. The band released the highly regarded "Will Of God Is A Great Power" in 1997, followed decades later by "There Flies Our Wail!" and "Ancient Doom Metal". "Relics" adds a new chapter with Hrafn on vocals, a singer associated with Vendel, taking on material connected to the legacy of Agyl, Scald’s late original vocalist. Hrafn brings a more expansive vocal approach to these songs, giving the older compositions a different presence while respecting their epic foundation.

"Relics" has five songs, three of them written after the sessions for "Will Of God Is A Great Power", when Scald were exploring broader musical ideas within their epic-doom approach. "Master Of Tundra", "Ravens" and "Flame" combine solemn doom passages with progressive metal influences, Nordic folk elements and a more varied vocal character. "Falcon", originally written by Agyl for Ross, appears in both English and Russian, adding a personal historical dimension to the EP.

The material has been preserved for decades before receiving proper studio recordings, and the result gives these songs a place beyond their earlier live existence. With just under half an hour of music, "Relics" offers a compact collection built around epic melodies, dramatic vocals and the dark atmosphere associated with Scald. The Russian version of "Falcon", "Sokol", closes the release with a strong connection to Agyl’s musical legacy.
