Blossom Cult is a German metal band formed in 2020, featuring Janos Romualdo Krusenbaum on vocals, guitars and keyboards, Max Trockenberg on guitars and backing vocals, Elias Bauer on keyboards and backing vocals, Maurice Hoch on bass and Peter Robers on drums. Following the EPs "Closure" and "Prequel", "Home" marks their first full-length release.
Their sound brings together alternative metal and progressive metal with atmospheric keyboards and orchestral elements, while guest musicians including Zach Ansley, Léo Margarit of Pain Of Salvation and Andreas Kübler add further colors to the album.
"Home" moves through melodic metal, progressive arrangements, atmospheric keyboards and orchestral touches, with the songwriting shifting between heavier guitar sections and more restrained passages. Christoph Jordan's production gives the album a detailed sound, allowing the guitars, vocals and keyboards to remain distinct across the layered arrangements. The guest appearances add variety to the vocal and musical presentation, particularly on "Wake Up" and "End Of The Line".
At around an hour, the album has a substantial running time, and its conceptual approach occasionally makes some sections feel more elaborate than necessary. There is enough variety across the material to maintain interest, although the amount of ideas sometimes affects the flow. "Home" stands as a mature debut with a carefully developed sound and a clear focus on atmosphere, melody and progressive songwriting.
