Barkasth was formed in 2015 in Kharkiv, Ukraine, with Arkhonth as its sole constant member, handling composition, lyrics and all instruments. The band released its debut, "Decaying", in 2018, followed by "Hear My Void" in 2019, moving from criticism of religious institutions toward darker themes of isolation, fear and psychological collapse. After six years of silence, Barkasth returned with a renewed lineup, joined by Vlad of Drudkh on drums, mixing and mastering. "Silent Torment" marks the band's return with a darker and more personal direction, rooted in the emotional aftermath of war and the reality experienced in Ukraine since February 2022.

"Silent Torment" runs for around forty minutes and presents bleak black metal shaped by grief, fear, isolation and memories of destruction. The lyrics use images of ruined cities, fire, ash and fractured memories to describe psychological scars left by war, with the album moving through different emotional states instead of following a linear story. The production gives the guitars, drums and vocals enough presence to maintain the oppressive atmosphere, with Vlad's mixing and mastering helping the material retains a raw edge.

Arkhonth's instrumental work forms the core of the music, while the drums add movement and tension across the album. There is a persistent sense of darkness throughout the eight songs, with the Ukrainian context adding a painful reality to the subject matter. "Silent Torment" is bleak, personal and emotionally heavy, presenting Barkasth in a more inward-looking form after its long absence. The result is a focused black metal release where grief and psychological suffering remain at the center.
