Genre Atmospheric Black Metal
Origin The Netherlands
Fluisteraars are a Dutch black metal band formed in 2009, built around M. Koops and B. Mollema, with their sound developing through atmospheric black metal, psychedelic elements and a strong connection to the folklore and landscapes of Gelderland. “Jacht Der Mysteriën” is their sixth full length release, following “Manifestaties Van De Ontworteling” from 2024. For this album, the core duo is joined by N. de Wit on drums and T. Cochrane on bass, with Cochrane also handling production duties alongside Koops.
The recording was made as a live band performance, with each composition captured in a single take, while additional sonic depth came from reamping through the hollow cylinder of an abandoned water tower. The result places Fluisteraars firmly within the Dutch black metal landscape while continuing their interest in atmospheric and psychedelic textures.
“Jacht Der Mysteriën” is a demanding listen, built from three extended compositions that stretch across more than forty minutes. The guitars move through hypnotic black metal patterns, shifting between cold aggression, psychedelic colours and slower atmospheric sections. “Grondeloos Donkere Bossen” establishes this approach with long guitar figures and restless percussion, while “Condities Der Afstraffing” brings a more turbulent character to the album. “Zwarte Zomermaan” expands the formula further, using its extended length for gradual changes and an atmospheric closing section. The live recording gives the instruments a raw, spatial presentation, while the unusual reamping method adds an almost spectral quality to the sound.
The production avoids excessive studio treatment and allows the interaction between guitars, bass, drums and vocals to remain central. Lyrically, the album draws from local legends, mysterious lights in the woods and the search for the unknown, ideas that connect naturally with the music without turning the concept into decoration. Fluisteraars has made a record that demands patience and concentration, with repetition playing a major role in its construction. The compositions can test that patience, yet the atmosphere remains coherent throughout, making “Jacht Der Mysteriën” a focused and distinctive entry in their discography.
