Under The Shadows is a long running project shaped by more than three decades of work across heavy metal, gothic music, and neo classic folk. The project brings together Elias Negrin on guitars, Dimitris Koskinas on lead guitar, Eric Castiglia on vocals, and Giannis Koskinas on bass. Its history is rooted in years of songwriting, studio work, collaboration, and experimentation, with “Thesmophoria” presenting the current chapter of that musical path. The combination of several dark musical traditions gives the project a broad palette, moving between metal heaviness, gothic atmosphere, and folk influenced storytelling.
“Thesmophoria” is a substantial collection with songs that generally sit within heavy metal, while gothic and neo classical folk touches add darker shades to the material. The guitars provide the main musical focus, combining melodic passages with heavier sections, while the vocals bring a dramatic presence suited to the subject matter. The production has a traditional metal character, with the main instruments presented distinctly and without excessive studio treatment. The songwriting has an old school approach, with atmospheric sections appearing alongside more conventional heavy metal structures. Not every composition reaches the same level of impact, and some sections could have been more concise. “Thesmophoria” remains a mature and varied heavy metal release, with enough musical detail to reward listeners who prefer darker and more atmospheric material.
