Titanosaur is the one man project of Geoff Saavedra, who handles vocals, guitars, bass, drums and the songwriting, with Kerri Rasmussen contributing vocals and lyrics to "Fire In The Hole". "A Thousand Suns" arrives as the first full length release since Saavedra underwent a heart transplant in 2024, following a difficult period of medical complications and recovery. Wishing him the best for his health. That background gives the album a very personal context, though the music itself remains centered on heavy riffs, bleak atmospheres and a rough rock attitude. Titanosaur blends grunge, doom metal, goth metal and stoner metal, with punk energy appearing across the material.
"A Thousand Suns" runs for just under an hour and puts a raw, heavy sound at the front, with distorted guitars, forceful drums and vocals that range from gritty singing to harsher delivery. The production leaves the music fairly rough around the edges, which suits the darker material and the grunge influence. Lyrically, survival, darkness, fire and personal struggle dominate the record, giving songs such as "My Destroyer", "This Hell", "I Remain" and the title track a bleak emotional direction.
"Fire In The Hole", featuring Kerri Rasmussen on vocals and lyrics, adds another voice to the album and broadens its vocal palette. The songwriting stays rooted in riff driven metal and hard rock, with doom and goth elements shaping the atmosphere. There is enough variety across the album to prevent the central sound from becoming monotonous. "A Thousand Suns" comes across as a personal and heavy underground release with a rough production character and a strong sense of darkness.
