Dirty Shirt is a Romanian folkcore metal band formed in the mid 1990s, initially starting out as a wedding band before developing into one of Eastern Europe’s most active metal acts. Across more than three decades, the band has built its sound around modern metal, hardcore, traditional Romanian music, folk elements and electronic textures. Their live history includes more than 1000 shows across 17 countries, with appearances at Hellfest, Wacken Open Air, Pol’and’Rock and Electric Castle, alongside performances with names such as Megadeth, Godsmack, Gogol Bordello, Skindred and Orphaned Land. “Dirty Thirty (The Best Of)” gathers material from several stages of their career, presenting 30 tracks alongside the new songs “FOMO” and “Büntető”.
“Dirty Thirty (The Best Of)” is a broad career collection spanning close to two hours, with songs dating from the band’s earlier period through their more recent releases. The production has been handled by several engineers, while Adrian Urițescu remastered selected older material, giving the compilation a coherent sonic presentation despite its wide recording history. The arrangements combine distorted guitars, keyboards, violin, accordion, cimbalom, brass, woodwinds, percussion and orchestral elements, with guest musicians adding further colour to the mix. Dirty Shirt through different periods and lineups, with the folk and metal elements constantly interacting instead of sitting in separate corners. The two new songs also provide a link toward the band’s next studio chapter. “Dirty Thirty (The Best Of)” is an accessible overview of a career built on musical contrasts, cultural influences and a large cast of collaborators, making it a useful introduction to the band’s particular approach to folkcore metal.
