Goatburner is a Finnish extreme metal duo formed in 2017 by Jaakko “Spider” Forsman and Keijo “Kaos” Niinimaa, also known for his work with Rotten Sound. Their music combines death metal, sludge and powerviolence, stripped down to a two member setup that relies on guitar, drums and vocals to produce a punishing sound. “Time Of Danger” brings together the band's two early releases, the “Time To Burn” EP from 2018 and the “Danger” EP from 2022, collecting six tracks from the opening years of their career. Newly mastered by Niinimaa in 2026, the release offers a single package covering the early stages of Goatburner's development, with cover artwork painted by Forsman.
“Time Of Danger” is delivering a raw blend of death metal riffs, sludge driven grooves and grindcore aggression. The remaster gives the older recordings a more unified presentation, although the production retains a rough, underground edge that occasionally limits the separation between the instruments. “Lights Out” and “Leaf Blower” establish the duo's preference for blunt riffing and short bursts of violence, while “Brutal Awakening” brings a more grinding approach through its slower sections and shifts in pace. “Melting Misery”, “Suffocating” and “Scorched” continue along similar lines, relying on basic arrangements and repetitive grooves instead of elaborate songwriting.
The two EPs come from different stages of the band's early development, and their combination makes those differences apparent across the six tracks. As a collection of archival material, “Time Of Danger” offers a useful look at the beginnings of Goatburner, although the limited musical variation and rough production can make the listening experience feel one dimensional over the full running time.
