Genre Dissident Death Metal
Origin Ireland
Leadbelcher is an Irish death metal band formed in 2024, featuring members and former members of Sermon Of Flames, Mortichnia, and Coscradh. Describing their sound as dissident death metal, the band combines old-school death metal with grindcore and d-beat, channelling disgust with religious hypocrisy, corruption, and the decay of society. “Heaven’s Bloated Corpse” is their debut full-length, released through Apocalyptic Witchcraft, with Matthew Simpson on vocals, Daniel Thompson on guitar, Ian Devlin on bass, and Karl Leavey on drums.
“Heaven’s Bloated Corpse” serves up eight tracks of savage death metal, driven by grinding guitar riffs, rapid drumming, d-beat rhythms, and vocals that sound like a prolonged outburst of contempt. “Pisscorpse” introduces the band’s warped approach, while “Narrowhouse” pushes the attack into faster, more violent territory. “Severance Of Belief” directs the album’s disgust towards religious deception, while “Light Of Vile Elucidation” closes the release with an extended dose of oppressive guitar work and vocal derangement.
Recorded and mixed by Josh Robinson at JSR Audio and mastered by James Plotkin, the production retains a raw, forceful sound, allowing the drums and distorted guitars to maintain their impact without stripping away the music’s filthy atmosphere. The songwriting relies heavily on relentless aggression and recurring death metal patterns, with limited variation across the album making some sections less distinctive than others. Even so, Leadbelcher’s combination of death metal, grindcore, and d-beat gives the album a coherent direction, matching its lyrical fixation on corruption, religious decay, and humanity’s darker impulses.
